Although we managed to get to school, the journey there was a little frightening – the roads that haven’t been gritted are like ice rinks, and I had to drive into a hedge to avoid skidding madly down a hill around a blind bend on a single lane road. Even in my Range Rover, it was far too treacherous for my liking.
So we picked up some school work for Will, came home, turned on the heating, and are officially having a Snow Day, despite the fact that the actual amount of snow that has fallen is minimal.
We stopped in town on the way home to stock up on holiday brochures (what better thing to do than plan one’s next holiday in the sunshine when the weather’s like this outside?), and to have a hot chocolate.
Ashley is still stuck in Sussex, and judging by the TV reports of the weather there, won’t be heading for home any time soon.
